This Victorian jardiniere originates from 1880, produced in the Doulton Lambeth style. The glazed stoneware and ceramic body exhibits a rich cobalt blue base paired with contrasting beige and brown tones, finished with a salt glaze. The piece is decorated with relief foliate scrolls, floral rosettes, and a crimped rim, alongside a wavy shaped top. The dimensions are 20 cm high, 24 cm wide, and 24 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this jardiniere suits display upon a sideboard top, bringing character to a sunlit conservatory or living space. It accommodates small house plants or stands alone as a decorative ceramic vessel.

FAQs

A Doulton Lambeth jardiniere is an art pottery vessel produced at the Doulton factory in Lambeth, London, during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, designed to display potted plants.

These vessels are constructed from high-fired stoneware or earthenware, finished with salt glazes, slip decorations, or coloured enamel glazes.

Authentic pieces feature impressed factory backstamps on the base, often accompanied by artist monograms, model numbers, and production year marks.

A ceramic jardiniere can be displayed on a sideboard, console table, or deep window sill, containing foliage plants or serving as a standalone decorative accent.

Glazed stoneware should be cleaned gently with warm water and a non-abrasive cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals or prolonged submersion in water.
