The Fancy Fox has dated this piece to the Victorian era.

This small moulded cucumber more closely resembles a courgette / zucchini in truth, and I have seen this piece referred to as such, however it is actually titled "Cucumber Tray", according to the original George Jones trade catalogue of c.1873, illustrated in George Jones Ceramics by Cluett, figure 72, model number 2563.

It measures 42cm (16 1/2") long, 22cm (8 5/8") wide and 6.3cm (2 1/2") high. A very impressive and striking serving piece, perfect as a centrepiece.
Condition is excellent with no damage or repair. There are two very small areas of the highest quality professional restoration to two of the petals on the raised flower and two tiny chips to the rim that have been invisibly filled; you will likely never find them, I only know they exist because I commissioned the work. Very minor handling wear.
