Description

A critically endangered species . In typical gilt edged wall dome. Circa 1885. Gardner’s small trade label listing ‘by appointment to the Queen’ along with the address 426 Oxford Street London, can be found nestled amongst the ground work.

Additionally, an old inscription to the rear of the case reads ‘Natal Parrot” which is the bird’s colloquial name.

The Cape parrot today is an endangered species to be found in the Afromontane forests of eastern South Africa where its whole lifestyle is centred around the yellowwood trees. It is Africa's most endangered parrot with an estimated population of around 500 breading pairs.

This particular wall dome is one from an original set of four. All recently purchased from a private house, and not previously offered for sale.
