1920 - 1940
For Sale by Art Deco World
Description

A genuinely rare opportunity to acquire an original high end Art Deco pedestal /torchiere in showroom condition. Go have a little research and you'll see how rare this piece is. Those seasoned Art Deco collectors will understand and appreciate this piece. Standing very elegant this pedestal is beautifully veneered on all sides with a decorative carved mouldings to the base. Raised on a stylised heavily carved base with beautiful tulip u shape sits an ebony perfectly round ball. This is a solid column with rich colouring and a wonderful patina. This mix of veneers with heavily figured walnut and macassar ebony banding creates the feel of luxury and kerb appeal, what a perfect piece to create a focal point for your room or entryway.

This pedestal would not have been accessible to many, offered only to the well connected and rich. We acquired this from a family home in London, although we believe the pedestal itself is most likely either French or Belgian in origin.

Wonderful and totally authentic 1930''s Art Deco stand that can showcase either a wonderful Art Deco figure or perhaps a jardinière.

Condition is very good having been through our workshops and professionally restored.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco pedestals from the 1930s feature geometric silhouettes, streamlined forms, and decorative contrasting wood veneers reflecting the modern architectural movements of the era.

Craftsmen commonly used exotic wood veneers such as burr walnut and Macassar ebony, often combined with painted, gilded, or silver-leaf accents over solid hardwood frames.

Authentic pieces display period-appropriate construction methods, such as hand-applied thick veneers, period joinery, and characteristic geometric or stepped architectural profiling.

Place a statement sculpture, ceramic vase, or trailing botanical specimen on the top surface to create vertical interest in an empty corner or hallway.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly while keeping the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting.
