Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

First Period Worcester porcelain, often referred to as the Dr Wall period, covers ceramic production at the Worcester factory between 1751 and 1783. This era is characterized by soft-paste porcelain featuring underglaze cobalt blue decoration, often depicting Chinoiserie landscapes and oriental motifs.

Early Worcester saucers were made from a soft-paste porcelain recipe containing soaprock (steatite) from Cornwall, which made the pieces resistant to thermal shock from boiling water. Decorations were applied using cobalt oxide pigment, either hand-painted or transfer-printed beneath a clear lead glaze.

Authentic pieces often exhibit a characteristic greenish or yellowish translucency when held to a strong light source. Common factory markings include the open or hatched crescent mark, workermarks, or square fret marks painted in underglaze blue on the underside.

Antique saucers can be displayed vertically using plate stands inside glazed cabinets, arranged on a sideboard top, or mounted as a wall grouping in a traditional or eclectic interior scheme.

Clean soft-paste porcelain gently using warm water and a mild detergent applied with a soft sponge. Avoid dishwashers, abrasive materials, and sudden temperature shifts to prevent crazing or damage to the glaze.
