We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian washstands were essential bedroom pieces created during the 19th century before plumbed indoor bathrooms became standard, designed specifically to hold basins, ewers, and washing accessories.

These items are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or walnut, featuring fitted marble tops designed to resist water damage and sturdy turned or tapered legs.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate joinery, traditional timber shrinkage, original marble slabs with characteristic veining, and hand-turned wooden knobs or brass fixtures consistent with the 19th century.

An antique washstand works effectively as a hallway console, a bathroom vanity base, or a decorative side table, blending historical character with contemporary functionality.

Maintain the piece by dusting the mahogany regularly with a soft cloth, conditioning the wood periodically with bees-wax, and sealing the marble top to prevent staining from liquids.
