FAQs

Terracotta has been used in India for millennia to create devotional objects and temple reliefs, reflecting local craftsmanship and regional iconographic traditions.

These pieces are typically hand-modelled or moulded from local alluvial clay, fired at low temperatures, and finished with natural mineral pigments and pigments mixed with organic binders.

Authentication relies on examining signs of age such as natural weathering, mineral encrustations, wear patterns on the polychrome surface, and consistent firing techniques appropriate to the region.

Displaying these figures on a simple shelf, mantelpiece, or console table allows their textured surfaces and historical character to act as a focal point in a curated room.

Keep terracotta objects in stable indoor conditions away from direct moisture and extreme temperature fluctuations, cleaning them gently with a soft, dry brush to avoid damaging fragile pigments.
