Antique Indian Terracotta Figures Shiva and Pavatti

Description

This is a good 19th century statue of Shiva and Parvati fashioned in terracotta and hand painted in lovely pastel shades.

Shiva and Parvati are a revered couple in Hinduism, embodying divine masculine and feminine energies respectively . Shiva, the destroyer and transformer, finds his counterpart in Parvati, the nurturing and benevolent goddess of love, fertility, and devotion. Their relationship symbolizes the harmony of opposites, with Shiva's asceticism balanced by Parvati's domesticity and love.

In really great condition for its age. Only minor wear and the odd chip but excellent overall for the age of the piece circa 1890.

The statue measures 34 cms high 18 cms wide by 12 deep.
