Staffordshire pearlware is a type of earthenware developed in the late 18th century by Josiah Wedgwood and adopted by other potteries in the Staffordshire region, characterised by a faint bluish-grey glaze over a whitish body.

These figures were typically slip-cast or hand-pressed in multi-part clay moulds, then hand-painted with metallic oxide enamels before being glazed and fired in a kiln.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit crazing in the glaze, hollow undersides with vent holes, minor firing imperfections, and hand-painted detailing consistent with 18th or 19th-century manufacturing methods.

They can be displayed on mantelpieces, inside glass-fronted cabinets, or on bookshelves to add a layer of historical interest and traditional craftsmanship to contemporary spaces.

Keep them out of direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading, dust gently with a soft dry brush, and avoid submerging in water or using chemical cleaning agents due to the delicate nature of the glaze and enamel.
