This Georgian mahogany card table displays warm brown tones across its solid timber crossbanded top and reeded legs. The rectangular design features a foliate marquetry inlay centrally on the top surface, along with satinwood oval shell inlays positioned across the front apron flanking a central oak-lined drawer fitted with a brass swan-neck handle. Decorative spandrel brackets accent the corners above straight legs, while pencil-round scratch moulding edges the double-leaf top. General usage wear and an old veneer repair appear on the front structure. Measuring 73 cm high, 92 cm wide, and 45 cm deep, the piece functions as a card table with seating for four when opened, and places well in a hallway beside the front door or within a living room setting for display or entertaining.

A Georgian card table is an eighteenth-century piece of furniture designed with a hinged fold-over top intended for playing parlour games. When closed, it serves as a narrow console or side table, and when opened, it reveals an expanded surface for card playing.

These tables were primarily crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, often accented with decorative marquetry inlays made of satinwood or boxwood. Hardware typically includes brass hinges and period-appropriate drawer pulls.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, hand-carved wood details, and irregular iron or brass fittings. Look for natural wood shrinkage along the grain and traditional fold-out leg mechanisms or gate-leg supports.

Place the table against a wall in an entryway or living room to function as a console, topped with a contemporary table lamp, ceramic vase, or artwork. Position it behind a sofa or in an empty corner to add historic character to modern interiors.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish occasionally to nourish the wood and inlay. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent veneer lifting and timber movement.
