This large 19th-century Chinese export porcelain centre bowl comes from the Chinese export style and sits in a circular footed base with gilt banding. The white glazed body carries hand-painted multi-coloured decoration, including pink floral enamel painting, green foliage, a cobalt blue rim featuring gilt scrollwork, and scattered groups of blooms with a profusion of flowers behind. The outer surface shows blue banding with hanging leaves, while the interior mirrors this layout with blue banding, gilt leaf highlighting, and fully decorated flower arrangements at the centre. Measuring 13.5 cm high by 30 cm wide and 30 cm deep, the piece brings an English Country House design vibe into the interior. It finds a practical home today placed centrally on a dining table or displayed on a sideboard as a decorative bowl holding potpourri or left empty to showcase the enamel work.

Chinese export porcelain refers to ceramic wares manufactured in China specifically for exportation to European and Western markets during the Qing dynasty. These pieces combined traditional Chinese motifs and painting techniques with shapes tailored to Western customs.

These bowls were crafted from kaolin clay porcelain, fired at high temperatures for structural strength. Decoration typically involved hand-painted overglaze polychrome enamels, paired with cobalt blue underglaze accents and hand-applied gilding.

Authentic pieces exhibit characteristics of hand-crafting, such as subtle variations in shape, foot-rim wear, and brushwork variations in enamel layers. Historical wear patterns on the base, gilding, and unglazed foot rims also indicate genuine period construction.

A large porcelain bowl functions as a focal decorative object when placed on a dining table, sideboard top, or entry console. It can be displayed empty to showcase interior motifs, or used to hold dry decorative elements.

Clean porcelain using warm water and a mild liquid detergent applied with a soft non-abrasive cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals, submersion if hairline cracks are present, and automatic dishwashers to prevent damage to gilding and enamels.
