FAQs

Coalport porcelain, established in Shropshire, England, became renowned during the 19th century for its fine bone china, intricate hand-painted designs, and versatile ornamental wares favoured by the British elite.

Makers utilised fine-paste porcelain and bone china compositions, often employing detailed mould-pressing for sculptural forms, followed by specialist glazing and high-temperature kiln firing.

Authenticity is typically verified through factory backstamps impressed or printed on the base, stylistic consistency with 19th-century catalogues, and the characteristic weight and translucency of the paste.

This type of decorative object works effectively as a focal point on a mantelpiece, coffee table, or sideboard, adding textural interest and a touch of classical maritime motif to contemporary spaces.

To preserve antique porcelain, clean only by dusting with a soft dry cloth or washing gently by hand in lukewarm water with mild soap when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials and harsh chemicals.
