Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large antique Arts & Crafts freestanding towel rail stand dates from around 1900 and is made from solid oak in a warm brown colour. The piece exhibits simple and functional lines typical of the period, featuring double top rungs, two lower horizontal bars, and a rectangular lower platform shelf above slender feet with small brass castors. Decorative carved scroll end caps surmount the vertical uprights, complemented by moulded joints down the framework. The timber shows minor historic knocks, marks, and wear consistent with age and regular use. Measuring 100 cm wide by 30 cm deep and 96 cm high, this substantial piece has generous proportions. It serves as a practical and decorative addition to an empty corner in a bedroom, bathroom, or dressing area today for hanging textiles while maintaining period country house charm.

FAQs

Arts and Crafts towel rails are freestanding wooden drying stands produced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, designed to combine daily utility with visible hand-craftsmanship, native timber selection, and geometric or organic joinery details.

These domestic items were primarily constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, walnut, or pitch pine, using turned wooden dowels for the drying rungs and mortise and tenon joints for structural stability.

Authentic pieces feature traditional mortise and tenon joinery, natural grain execution, age-consistent timber oxidation, subtle carved accents or stylized end caps, and often retain original metal castors at the base.

Beyond functional placement in a traditional bathroom, a freestanding towel horse can be placed in a bedroom or dressing area to display vintage textiles, throws, quilts, or bed linens.

Keep the timber frame away from direct heat sources and standing water, dust regularly with a clean lint-free cloth, and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to protect the original finish.
