Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A desk stand, or standish, is a tabletop writing accessory designed to house inkwells, pens, and desk implements. During the nineteenth century, examples were crafted from exotic hardwoods such as coromandel and decorated with gilt-metal mounts for display in libraries and offices.

Victorian inkstands often combined dense hardwoods like coromandel, rosewood, or ebony with cast ormolu or engraved brass mounts. They typically featured cut-glass ink bottles, occasionally accented with semi-precious stone cabochons such as agate or jasper.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples display dense timber veneers with distinct dark striations, hand-cut glass facets, and hand-engraved brass or gilt-bronze fittings. Look for signs of natural age-related patination on the metalwork and natural wear to the base.

A decorative inkstand functions as a refined accent when positioned on an executive desk, console table, or library bookshelf. It pairs effectively with dark wood furniture, leather-bound volumes, and traditional brass desk lighting.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly to maintain moisture. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners on gilded brass or ormolu mounts to preserve the historical patination and original gilding.
