Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1890 French demilune card table adopts the Louis XV style, constructed from warm brown bookmatched kingwood with parquetry veneer. The top edge includes a brass guard rail, and the frieze shows cast ormolu floral mounts, matching the espagnolettes on the shoulders and sabots on the curved cabriole legs. Additional details visible include bookmatched veneer patterns on the semicircular top, shaped aprons, and slender tapering legs resting on small metal feet. The table measures 77 cm high, 91 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this piece suits placement beside the front door as a console table or functions as a decorative surface in a hallway, living room, or study. The hinged top opens for occasional use as a games table, adding French chateau character to a traditional interior.

FAQs

A Louis XV style card table typically features curved cabriole legs, asymmetrical rococo ormolu mounts, and wood veneers arranged in decorative parquetry patterns, designed for parlour games.

These tables are traditionally constructed with a solid hardwood frame veneered in kingwood parquetry, trimmed with cast gilt-bronze mounts and edge mouldings, and built with a fold-over top.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut joinery, thick hand-cut veneers, cast bronze mounts with hand-chased surface details, and natural wear patterns near the hinges and feet.

When closed, the table functions as a demilune console positioned against an entryway wall or behind a sofa, decorated with modern ceramics or contemporary artwork to contrast the classic marquetry.

Position the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent veneer lifting, dust regularly with a dry lint-free cloth, and avoid applying chemical polishes to the gilt-bronze mounts.
