Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This traditional English ginger jar and cover comes from the 1950 period, shaped with a rounded ovoid body and a smooth domed lid. The fine bone china porcelain carries a glossy glaze finish, painted in multicoloured tones with detailed illustrations of red and yellow apples, purple grapes, and green leaves against a soft, shaded background, signed by Freeman. Gilded rims accent the top of the jar and the base of the lid, complementing the gold leaf details on the artwork. The piece measures 18 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 16 cm deep, making it a suitable decorative accent for a sideboard top in an English country house interior today.

FAQs

Originating in the late 19th century, Royal Worcester painted fruit items became iconic through artists who specialised in hand-painting realistic still-life compositions of apples, grapes, peaches, and berries onto fine porcelain.

These items are crafted from fine bone china or soft-paste porcelain, decorated with mineral-based enamel pigments, and finished with burnished gold leaf gilding on the rims, lids, and bases.

Authentic pieces feature the official printed Royal Worcester factory stamp on the underside, an artists painted signature within the artwork, and precise, multi-layered enamel painting without print dots.

A porcelain ginger jar can be displayed as a standalone focal point on a sideboard, arranged alongside leather-bound books on a shelf, or placed on a mantelpiece to add colour and traditional craftsmanship.

Dust gently with a soft, clean microfibre cloth, avoiding water or chemical cleaners that could degrade the unglazed paints or wear down the delicate surface gilding over time.
