Description

This is a great late Victorian stained glass panel contained within a good solid antique pine frame dating from around 1900. The glasswork is in excellent condition for its age overall with the words “Club Room” to the centre in white milk glass all cleverly leaded into place. The condition is remarkably good with no real damage or losses, just a couple of tiny cracks to the letter L and C but very very minor. The sign probably formerly from a public house would look stunning in many settings like a modern kitchen or even the “Man Cave” and has a couple of mirror plate fixed to the top so is ready to display.

The sign measures 103 cms by 53 cms overall.

UK can be arranged with our trusted furniture courier and costs £55 plus vat to most destinations.

Date of Manufacture

Rams Head Antiques has dated this Antique Stained Glass Sign to the 1900s.

FAQs

Victorian stained glass signage gained prominence during the late 19th century, frequently utilised in commercial establishments, private gentlemens clubs, and public houses to denote specific rooms or display branding with decorative elegance.

These pieces are typically constructed using mouth-blown or tinted cathedral glass held together by lead cames, soldered at the joints, and reinforced within a supportive wooden frame, often featuring hand-painted glass details.

Authenticity is determined by examining the patination of the lead cames, the presence of air bubbles and minor imperfections in the antique glass sheets, and traditional construction methods such as hand-soldered joints and period timber frames.

Such a piece can be hung as wall art against a neutral background or mounted in front of a light source or window to allow natural illumination to highlight the rich colours and textures of the glass.

Cleaning requires a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. Harsh chemical cleaners and excessive moisture must be avoided to protect the fragile lead cames and aged wooden frame from degradation.
