This nineteenth-century French Louis XV side table has a kidney-shaped top finished in warm brown kingwood and walnut veneer with chevron parquetry inlay, bordered by a gilded metal edge moulding. Gilt bronze ormolu mounts adorn the shoulders and feet of the four curved cabriole legs, while the frieze incorporates a single front drawer with a shaped lower edge and central ormolu detail. The construction measures 76 cm high, 60 cm wide, and 36 cm deep. Positioned at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair, the surface provides a practical platform for a table lamp, books, or decorative objects. The compact proportions suit a living room, drawing room, or hallway, bringing continental decorative style to interior settings without occupying excessive floor space.

Originating in eighteenth-century France as a table rognon, a kidney-shaped side table features a crescent-contoured top designed to sit alongside armchair seating or curved architectural elements.

These tables are commonly constructed with hardwood frames finished in parquetry or marquetry veneers such as kingwood, tulipwood, or walnut, complemented by cast gilt-bronze ormolu mounts.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut marquetry or parquetry, finely chased brass or ormolu mounts fitted to slender cabriole legs, dovetail drawer construction, and natural oxidisation on the timber and metalwork.

Position the table beside a armchair, inside a bay window, or as an accent piece in a hallway, paired with a simple table lamp or decorative porcelain to balance historical and contemporary elements.

Dust the veneered surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly to the timber, and clean gilded metal mounts gently with a soft brush while avoiding abrasive polishes.
