Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Chinoiserie console table or hall table works as a striking functional accent in a hallway, living space or reception room. Constructed from dark brown hardwood and fruitwood, the item displays a maximalist wonderland aesthetic with a painted black top protected by a fitted sheet of smoked glass. The structural frame stands sound and sturdy on four carved claw feet. Intricate relief carvings cover the frieze, legs and sides with dragons, Chinese symbols, and other creatures, complemented by bamboo-effect moulding along the top edges. Measuring 83 cm high, 127 cm wide and 61 cm deep, the furniture piece provides ample surface area for display purposes. Homeowners can place this console table beside the front door to hold keys, post and decorative objects, or position it within a living area as a dramatic statement piece that showcases traditional craftsmanship and detailed oriental motifs.

FAQs

Chinoiserie console tables originate from European artistic interpretations of East Asian decorative traditions, characterised by detailed hand-carved relief panels featuring dragons, architectural motifs, and bamboo-inspired borders.

These tables are traditionally constructed using dense hardwoods such as teak, rosewood, or camphorwood, frequently featuring mortise and tenon joinery alongside fitted glass protective tops.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-tool marks within recessed carvings, natural timber grain variation under dark stains, traditional joinery without modern steel fasteners, and age-consistent wear along the lower legs and feet.

Position the table against a neutral wall in an entryway or hallway, pairing it with contemporary wall sconces or a understated mirror to contrast the intricate relief carving.

Dust regularly using a soft microfibre brush to clean recessed areas, apply microcrystalline wax annually to preserve the timber finish, and position away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking.
