This Edwardian Arts and Crafts side table is made from solid oak with a light to medium brown waxed finish. The rectangular top sits above a plain apron, supported by splayed tapered legs joined by a sturdy lower X-frame stretcher. The grain shows through the polished timber surface, displaying natural variations in tone across the top and legs. Measuring 66 cm high, 53 cm wide and 36 cm deep, the table fits neatly into various living spaces. Suitable for use at the end of a sofa, this versatile piece also works well as a plant table, a stand for a floral display, or a pedestal to showcase a sculpture or work of art. It suits both contemporary and traditional interior settings in a home today.

The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in late 19th-century Britain, emphasising traditional craftsmanship, simple geometric forms, and honest construction techniques over mass-produced ornamentation.

Solid native hardwoods, particularly oak, are predominantly used, often showcasing traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, lap joints, and x-frame stretchers.

Look for functional design elements, quartersawn oak displaying prominent medullary rays, clean rectilinear lines, hand-finished surfaces, and structural stretchers rather than applied carving.

Position the table alongside modern upholstered seating as an accent surface, paired with ceramic lighting or contemporary artwork to balance historic timber tones with clean, modern lines.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain, keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and high moisture levels.
