Lee Wright Antiques & Interiors Ltd has dated this George II Mahogany Table to the 18th Century.
This fine table is of late George II or early George III period, made around 1760. The piece has an overhanging top with an edge moulding, creating a tray top design.
The table top has four particularly elegant, re-entrant corners. It has a single drawer in the frieze with its original plate handle and below the frieze there is an unusual piece of drop carving. We have not seen this particular motif on anything before. The motif is also used on the back frieze, and the piece is finished all round, allowing it to be used to take tea in the centre of a room as designed. The table is of excellent colour and patination and stands on four chamfered legs with small castors.
A very attractive and useful side/occasional table.
