FAQs

An Edwardian perpetual desk calendar is a mechanical tabletop device manufactured during the Edwardian era, designed to display the day, date, and month continuously through rotating rollers or cards without needing replacement each year.

These calendars were typically crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, often featuring brass fittings, ceramic scroll inserts, or printed card rollers housed within a timber frame.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction techniques such as dovetail joints, traditional wood finishes like shellac or wax, period typography on the date panels, and genuine age-related patination on the wood.

It can be placed on a home office desk, a library bookshelf, or a mantelpiece to add a touch of historical charm and tactile character to contemporary workspaces.

Keep the item away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent wood splitting, and clean periodically using a soft, dry cloth and occasional applications of microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber.
