Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian desk accessory is an antique extending book slide from 1930. The piece is made of oak with a medium brown waxed finish that highlights the plain oak grain. It includes shaped side panels, an extending mechanism, and vertical wooden slats forming the backrest. The visible details comprise curved upright ends and horizontal wooden planks with a warm timber tone. The item measures 13 cm high, 32 cm wide, and 20 cm deep, expanding to accommodate larger collections. In a modern home, the book slide suits an office desk or a bedside table to store favourite reading materials. The functional design holds volumes upright while keeping them accessible for daily reading. The traditional appearance complements study rooms, libraries, and reading corners without taking up excessive surface area.

FAQs

A book slide is an adjustable desktop accessory featuring an expanding sliding mechanism designed to hold a variable quantity of books securely on a flat surface.

These items were predominantly crafted from hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, often featuring brass or wooden runners to enable smooth extension.

Authentic period pieces display genuine wear along the sliding tracks, historical patination on the timber, hand-cut joinery details, and period-appropriate wood construction.

Position the piece on an office desk, side table, or console to arrange a curated collection of hardback books, notebooks, or reference material.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry cloth and periodically apply clear wax polish to protect the timber finish, avoiding excess wax accumulation on the sliding runners.
