This beautifully decorated CHINESE NANKING PLATTER dates from circa 1800.

It is freely painted with ornate flowers and foliage.

The condition is good. There are no cracks or restoration. There is a minute ‘flea bite’ to the edge. which is barely visible, and only mentioned for accuracy.

Nanking porcelain refers to Chinese export blue and white porcelain produced predominantly during the Qing Dynasty in Jindezhen and exported to Europe via the port of Nanking (Nanjing) during the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

These pieces were crafted using kaolin clay and petuntse, decorated by hand with underglaze cobalt blue pigment, and finished with a clear glaze before firing at high temperatures in dragon kilns.

Authentic pieces feature variations in hand-painted execution, a slightly orange-peel texture to the glaze, natural glaze contraction marks, and unglazed foot rims showing historical surface wear.

Position the platter upright on a stand on a sideboard, mount it as part of a wall gallery display, or place it flat as a table centrepiece to introduce historical pattern and colour contrast.

Hand wash gently using warm water and mild washing-up liquid. Avoid abrasive pads, automated dishwashers, and sudden temperature shifts that could cause thermal shock or micro-cracking.
