Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large Victorian earthenware wash bowl dates to the early 20th century, specifically around 1920. Finished in a white glaze, the piece features a blue transferware pattern of floral scrollwork complemented by gilded accents along the scalloped rim. Visible details include a printed Ringtons Ltd tea merchants mark to the base, alongside slight wear from general use. The dimensions of the bowl are 10.8 cm high, 38 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. In a modern interior, this round wash bowl sits suitably on top of a sideboard in a dining room, living area, or hallway to hold decorative items or function as a standalone display piece. The item suits an English Country House aesthetic and brings traditional ceramic craftsmanship into a contemporary domestic setting.

FAQs

Antique wash bowls, traditionally paired with a matching pitcher or ewer, were standard bedroom fixtures prior to widespread indoor plumbing, used for daily personal washing atop a washstand.

These basins were generally manufactured from glazed earthenware or ironstone, decorated with transfer-printed cobalt designs and often finished with hand-applied gold gilding.

Authentic period examples often feature printed or impressed maker marks on the underside, delicate craquelure within the glaze, and expected rub wear to the base ring and gilded edges.

A large ceramic basin works effectively as a table centrepiece, an accent piece on open kitchen shelving, or a decorative display vessel on a bathroom counter or sideboard.

Hand washing using warm water and a mild detergent is recommended, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners and abrasive pads that could strip the delicate surface gilding.
