FAQs

Coalport porcelain was established in Shropshire, England, around 1795 by John Rose, quickly gaining renown for its fine body and rich enamel decoration influenced by contemporary Japanese Imari and flora.

These platters were crafted from fine-paste porcelain or ironstone, shaped using moulds, and hand-decorated with cobalt blue underglaze, polychrome enamels, and gilded accents fired at high temperatures.

Authentic pieces often feature characteristic unglazed foot rims, subtle glaze imperfections typical of early firing methods, hand-painted details, and occasionally faint impressed or painted factory marks specific to the period.

An antique platter can be mounted securely on a wall as decorative art, displayed vertically on a plate stand within a dresser, or used as a centrepiece on a dining table.

To preserve the delicate hand-painted enamels and historic glazes, these items should be hand-washed gently in lukewarm water with mild soap and never placed in a dishwasher.
