Probably originally woven to be used as an entre-fenetre or portiere, this fine wool and metal thread tapestry panel is a stunning piece of woven art. Although clearly inspired by French decorative arts, it is possibly of Spanish origin. Either way, it displays the late 19th century taste for lavish Baroque designs and rich bold colouring. The complexity of the design and the variety of motifs keeps the eye moving constantly, and the composition gives an immediate sense of style and glamour. One could imagine it complementing a Versace interior or fashion event. Alternatively it would transform any modern or contemporary setting adding colour, design and presence.
