The removeable glass would mean that this large compass could be transported easily without damage. The paper compass rose shows the main cardinal points and both azimuth and quadrant scales. The steel magnetic needle is original and has a mounted centre jewel which sits upon the pivot point. The needle is chamfered on the underside at each point. The north of the needle has a tiny brass insert dot.
