Art Deco bookends emerged during the 1920s and 1930s, reflecting a period of modernist design, industrial progress, and a fascination with global cultures and exotic motifs.

They were typically crafted using cast metals such as bronze, spelter, or brass, often mounted upon heavy stone bases like marble or onyx to provide stability.

Authentic items from this era generally exhibit period-specific casting techniques, natural age-related patination, foundry marks, and material weight consistent with 20th-century manufacturing.

They can be used to anchor rows of literature on open shelving, sideboards, or mantelpieces, adding a focal point of sculptural metalwork and historical character.

Maintenance requires gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that might damage the original metal patination or stone base.
