Priest clubs, also known as truncheons or batons, were historically used by law enforcement, guards, and individuals for personal defense and crowd control.

These items were typically hand-carved from dense hardwoods such as oak, lignum vitae, or boxwood, often featuring incised geometric or decorative patterns.

Authenticity is determined by examining tool marks, timber shrinkage, natural patina, wear patterns appropriate to age, and consistency of the carving style with historical examples.

Displaying such objects on a dedicated stand, within a cabinet of curiosities, or mounted on a library wall adds a layer of historic character and texture to a study or living space.

Preservation requires keeping the object away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity, occasionally treating the timber with microcrystalline wax to maintain the condition of the wood.
