FAQs

Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region of Japan, initially produced for export to Europe starting in the seventeenth century. By the late Meiji period, artisans refined intricate polychrome enamel hand-painting techniques to create detailed landscape scenes and ornate borders for international decorative markets.

These bowls were crafted from refined kaolin clay, high-fired to create a vitreous porcelain body, and finished with a translucent glaze. Decoration was executed using underglaze cobalt blue and rich overglaze enamel pigments, frequently finished with gold leaf accents.

Authentic late nineteenth-century pieces typically demonstrate fine hand-painted enamelwork, slight structural irregularities from manual turning, and light wear along the unglazed foot rim.
