Imari ware is a type of Japanese export porcelain produced in the town of Arita, in the Hizen province of northwestern Kyushu, gaining prominence during the Edo period in the late 17th and 18th centuries.

Imari pieces are crafted from high-fired kaolin clay, glazed, and traditionally hand-painted underglaze in cobalt blue and overglaze in iron red, accented with gilt highlights.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic firing spurs on the base, minor iron spots within the glaze, hand-pencilled cobalt brushwork beneath a clear glaze, and age-appropriate wear to the overglaze enamels.

This piece functions effectively as a focal point on a sideboard or coffee table, pairing well with neutral tones to highlight its rich palette of cobalt blue and iron red.

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth and wash only by hand in lukewarm water with mild soap when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials, harsh chemicals, and dishwashers.
