Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

To preserve antique painted surfaces, keep the screen away from direct sunlight and moisture fluctuations, dust gently with a soft dry cloth, and avoid using chemical cleaning agents.

An antique screen can be positioned flat against a neutral wall as large-scale artwork, used to zone an open-plan space, or placed in a corner to add texture, colour, and historical depth to contemporary schemes.

Authentication involves examining the ageing characteristics of the pigments, the craquelure of the paint surface, the construction of the underlying wooden frame, and the type of historical fasteners or hinges used.

Authentic period screens typically feature a wooden structural frame supporting stretched canvas, leather, or paper panels that are hand-painted in oil or gouache and joined together using metal hinges.

Folding screens originated in ancient China during the Han dynasty before spreading to Japan and eventually Europe via trade routes during the 17th and 18th centuries, where they became prized decorative accessories for European nobility.
