A half hull model is a three-dimensional representation of one side of a ships hull, traditionally used by shipwrights and naval architects to design and visualise vessel shapes before full-scale construction.

These models are traditionally constructed from layered or solid blocks of native timbers such as mahogany, pine, or walnut, often featuring carved wooden details and mounted on a contrasting backboard.

Authentic period pieces typically exhibit hand-carved tool marks, genuine oxidisation of the timber, period-appropriate fixings, and construction methods consistent with historical shipyards rather than modern mass production.

Such pieces function effectively as focal wall art in studies, hallways, or living spaces, pairing well with traditional dark woods, neutral backdrops, and other maritime or classical elements.

Keep the model away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and high humidity to prevent timber warping and cracking, dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
