Georgian Needlework Sampler By Sarah Andrew Of Ardsley

A wonderful antique Georgian needlework sampler in an inlaid mahogany frame dating from circa 1820 by Sarah Andrew of Ardsley. The sampler features the alphabet and numbers from 1 to 16 in green on a cream ground along with the charming verse “Sarah Andrew is my name England is my nation ardsley Is my dwelling place and Christ is my salvation”. Complete with a patterned border of multi-coloured flowers trees and birds. It is presented in a beautiful glazed period mahogany box frame with marquetry inlay to the perimeter. To the back is a label stating that the sampler was worked by Sarah Andrew in 1820 who was Born in 1809 and died in 1886. It details that the sampler was remounted by E Majorie Williams in 1945.
 
Ardsley is a small village approximately 3 miles east of Barnsley and forms part of South Yorkshire.

The needlework is lightly faded and on a cream linen background, with wear and marks commensurate with age. Frame in good condition. Small stain near number 13.
