We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Georgian furniture is characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the widespread adoption of imported timbers such as mahogany, which replaced native oak as the premier cabinet-making material.

Authentic period tables typically feature solid timber construction or high-grade veneers applied to secondary woods, joined using traditional techniques such as dovetailing for drawers and mortise-and-tenon joints for the frame.

Authentication involves examining tool marks, timber oxidisation, hand-cut dovetails, and the presence of shrinkage cracks or wear patterns consistent with age rather than artificial distress.

Pairing a dark wood antique with minimalist modern seating or contemporary lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition that highlights the rich grain and warm tones of the timber.

Maintain stable relative humidity levels, keep timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and apply natural beeswax periodically to nourish the surface without using modern silicone-based polishes.
