Description

A charming antique Edwardian fold-out boot jack in oak dating from circa 1910. This boot jack or shoe pull was probably made for a country house and used for pulling off long riding boots (or hiking boots). In good working order, it has a hinged boot plate into which you would place your boot heel and remove your footwear while holding onto the handles. In solid oak with wonderful original patina it features turned handles and has a visible pegged mortice and tenon construction. Useful for riders or ramblers alike, it folds away flat for storage, so can be conveniently hung up in a hallway or boot room.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Preservation involves dusting with a dry cloth and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the timber, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive moisture.

This piece can be placed near an entrance or mudroom as an authentic functional accent, blending heritage utility with rustic or traditional interior schemes.

Authentication relies on examining the timber grain, hand-cut joinery, period-appropriate metal fixings, and natural wear patterns consistent with age and functional use.

These items were predominantly crafted from sturdy hardwoods like oak, mahogany, or walnut, often featuring brass hinges and leather or velvet heel grips.

Boot jacks have been used for centuries to remove tall riding or walking boots without bending over, and by the Edwardian era, folding models became popular for country houses and travel.
