Meissen Porcelain Group Of Musicians, C. 1870.

A large Meissen porcelain musical group, c. 1870. Finely modelled as a young man holding a violin, and pouring wine into a glass, held by his female companion. A girl plays a lute, accompanied by a boy, before his hat filled with flowers.
 
Meanwhile the young Bacchus sits astride a goat, playing a tambourine, whilst a putti strokes and feeds the goat; a further putti stands holding a dove.
 
All set upon a rocky outcrop, with a continuous band of moulded rocaille, heightened in gilt.
 
Modelled after Michel Victor Acier.
 
Underglaze blue crossed swords mark, and incised model number ‘C59’ to the base.
 
Height – 39 cm, 15 3/8”.
 
Width – 23 cm, 9 1/8”.
 
Condition – Repair to minor chips. Typical firing faults to the underside of the of the base, that do not penetrate the body.
