FAQs

Tables featuring pull-out slides originated in European farmhouses and vernacular dining spaces to provide additional surface area for food preparation and serving without the need for heavy leaves.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid regional hardwoods such as cherry, oak, or walnut, utilising traditional joinery like mortise and tenon frames and hand-planed top boards.

Authenticity is indicated by period-appropriate tool marks, hand-cut joinery, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and natural wear patterns on the sliding mechanisms and legs.

Pairing a warm timber table with contemporary minimalist seating or industrial lighting creates a balanced contrast between historical texture and modern design.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
