The Broken Eggs motif originated in 18th-century French genre painting, notably by Jean-Baptiste Greuze, before being adapted into three-dimensional porcelain by Meissen modellers such as Michel Victor Acier. The allegorical scene depicts figures reacting to a basket of spilt eggs, symbolising lost innocence within Rococo narrative art.

Meissen figures were produced using hard-paste porcelain, composed of kaolin and petuntse. The pieces were fired at high temperatures, hand-painted with overglaze polychrome enamels, and detailed with hand-applied gilding.
