FAQs

Victorian side tables were produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), an era marked by industrial innovation and diverse revivalist furniture styles that catered to the growing middle class.

These tables were typically constructed from dense hardwoods like walnut, mahogany, or oak, featuring mortise and tenon joinery, hand-turned elements, and often brass castors for mobility.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate timber patination, hand-cut dovetails or joinery marks, genuine brass hardware oxidisation, and construction techniques consistent with 19th-century cabinet making.

An antique side table functions effectively as a contrasting textural element in minimalist or modern spaces, pairing well with contemporary lighting or abstract art to create a layered interior.

Preservation requires maintaining stable room humidity away from direct heat sources, avoiding chemical polishes, and periodically feeding the timber with traditional beeswax to protect the finish.
