Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

FAQs

Refectory tables originated in medieval monasteries, where they were utilised in dining halls known as refectories for communal meals by monks.

They are traditionally constructed from heavy domestic hardwoods like oak, elm, or walnut, featuring robust mortise and tenon joinery and structural stretcher bases for stability.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-planed surface textures, traditional joint construction without modern fixings, and natural patina, wear, and oxidisation accumulated over centuries of use.

Pairing a historic wooden table with contemporary minimalist seating creates a balanced contrast that highlights the natural grain and craftsmanship of the antique piece.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels, avoid placing timber furniture in direct sunlight, and nourish the wood periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
