Description

A wonderful pair of antique Georgian mahogany console tables. They were made in England, they date from around the 1790’s period.

The quality is superb, these are beautifully made from solid mahogany with fine carving around the edges. The bow fronted tops sit on finely tapered legs that terminate in spade feet. The colour tone and patina of the mahogany is gorgeous.

We have had these recently re-polished, the condition is excellent for their age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Georgian furniture spans the reigns of the first four Georges, characterised by classical proportions, sophisticated craftsmanship, and the adoption of imported timbers such as mahogany following the repeal of import duties.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like Cuban or Honduras mahogany, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon framing, and subtle hand-carved decorative flourishes.

Authenticity is identified through period-correct joinery such as hand-sawn dovetails, natural wax patination, shrinkage cracks consistent with age, and tool marks left by hand planes rather than modern machinery.

They provide a grounding architectural element in contemporary hallways or living rooms, and can be paired with minimalist abstract art or modern lamps to create a balanced juxtaposition of eras.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and applying occasional natural beeswax polishes while avoiding silicone-based commercial sprays.
