This nineteenth-century Rococo Revival Swedish tea table originates from circa 1890 and follows a French Chateau style. Constructed from birch and satin birch, the piece presents a warm golden brown colour with prominent flame birch grain patterns across the shaped fold-over top, the serpentine apron, and the four cabriole legs. The polished timber surface displays minor surface marks, alongside a restored age split to one leg. Recently restored and re-polished in the workshop, the folding table features a top surface that twists and opens to form a near square surface, revealing a shallow storage well when rotated while folded. Measuring 76.8 cm high, 93.3 cm wide, and 45 cm deep, this tea table suits placement beside the front door or within a hallway, living room, or study for display purposes or as a functional surface. The slender cabriole legs and serpentine curves lend a refined aesthetic suitable for traditional or classic interior settings.

FAQs

Rococo Revival emerged in the mid-19th century, reimagining 18th-century French Rococo aesthetics through exaggerated serpentine curves, slender cabriole legs, and elaborate naturalistic carvings.

Cabinetmakers frequently utilised native Scandinavian woods such as flame birch, satin birch, pine, and oak, often finished with warm varnishes to highlight natural wood grain patterns.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut joinery, traditional brass hinges on fold-over tops, characteristic figure-grained birch veneers, and consistent oxidation along structural seams.

Place the table against a neutral wall as a console or side accent, pairing its curved silhouette with contemporary understated artwork and minimalist table lighting.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply high-grade beeswax twice yearly, avoiding direct sunlight, radiators, and harsh chemical cleaners to protect the finish.
