FAQs

The Regency and George IV periods span the early 19th century in Britain, characterised by a revival of classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian motifs, coupled with an emphasis on fine cabinet-making and rich timbers.

These tables are traditionally constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or satinwood, featuring mortise and tenon joinery, handmade dovetails in the drawers, and hinged drop leaves supported by swing brackets.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate hand-cut joints, uniform timber shrinkage, authentic patina, traditional timber secondary woods inside drawers, and wear patterns consistent with age rather than artificial distress.

Pair the rich wood tones with neutral upholstery, modern lighting, and minimalist seating to create a balanced contrast that highlights the craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
