Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

First introduced in the mid-18th century and named after the Countess of Pembroke, the Pembroke table was designed as a lightweight, versatile occasional table. It features two folding side leaves and usually one or two drawers, allowing it to serve multiple functions such as tea service, writing, or bedside use.

19th-century Pembroke tables were primarily crafted from woods such as mahogany, rosewood, and oak, with secondary timbers like pine used for interior drawer linings. Hardware typically consisted of brass handles, castors, and iron drop-leaf rule joints.

Authentic pieces exhibit period joinery techniques, including hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers and original wood shrinkage across table surfaces. Look for rule joints along the hinged leaves and age-appropriate wear or patination around turned leg joints and brass hardware.

A Pembroke table functions well as an end table alongside a sofa, a compact desk in a home office, or a hallway side table. Modern interiors benefit from its fold-down design, which allows it to fit narrow spaces while expanding when needed.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax once or twice a year to maintain the wood finish. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood warping or finish discolouration.
