Tunbridge ware refers to wooden items decorated with characteristic mosaic woodwork or banding, originating from Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge in Kent, England, primarily during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Makers utilised various native and exotic hardwoods, employing wood-turning lathes and intricate mosaic techniques where thousands of tiny wood blocks were glued together to form geometric patterns or pictorial scenes.

Authenticity is determined by examining the precision of the wood mosaic work, the species of timber used, hand-turned elements, historical wear patterns, and occasionally inscribed souvenir labels or maker signatures.

These small decorative objects work well displayed within glass cabinets, on open shelving alongside vintage books, or styled on side tables as conversation pieces that add texture and historical interest.

Preserve wooden treen by keeping it away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels. Apply a microcrystalline wax periodically to maintain the surface finish without damaging the historic patina.
