FAQs

During the Edo and Meiji periods, Japanese metalworkers and artisans refined traditional lost-wax casting techniques, producing intricate Buddhist sculptures that reflected evolving religious practices and cultural shifts.

These sculptures are typically cast in bronze using traditional methods and finished with fire-gilding or applied gold leaf over a dark patina base.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit natural wear to the gilding, consistent oxidation patterns within the bronze, and hand-chased details characteristic of historical casting methods.

Such pieces function well as focal points on surfaces like console tables, mantels, or display cabinets, pairing effectively with minimalist or textured organic surroundings.

Dusting gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth is recommended; moisture, chemical cleaners, and abrasive materials should be avoided to protect the fragile surface gilding and patina.
