Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Treen encompasses small, functional wooden household objects manufactured before the widespread adoption of ceramics and plastics. Wooden bowls from the 18th century and earlier were typically turned on a pole lathe from domestic hardwoods like sycamore, maple, and beech for domestic use in dairies and kitchens.

Sycamore was historically favoured for dairy and kitchen vessels because it is non-porous, hard-wearing, and does not impart an unpleasant taste or odour to foodstuffs. Master turners shaped green timber on lathes before allowing the vessels to dry and warp organically over centuries.

Authentic pieces exhibit tool marks characteristic of pole lathe turning, such as concentric ridges and a central chuck mark on the base. Genuine age is further indicated by natural shrinkage cracks, dry surface patination, and cumulative wear from decades of utilitarian use.

These sculptural objects serve as natural focal points on dining tables, sideboards, or open shelving. Their warm textures and organic forms complement both rustic and minimalist modern interiors by introducing historical depth and tactile contrast.

Antique wooden vessels should only be cleaned with a dry or barely damp, lint-free cloth to avoid raising the grain or removing the historic patina. Periodic application of food-safe mineral oil or beeswax helps prevent the timber from drying out and splitting.
