Regency games tables date from the early 19th century in Britain, a period defined by neoclassical influences, refined cabinetmaking, and a strong culture of parlour entertainment.

Cabinetmakers predominantly utilised dense tropical hardwoods like rosewood and mahogany, often featuring contrasting light and dark wood veneers for chess or backgammon boards.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-correct joinery, hand-turned wooden components, genuine timber shrinkage, and hand-cut veneers rather than modern machine-pressed laminates.

Such a table functions effectively as an accent piece in a study or living space, paired with minimalist seating to highlight its historic craftsmanship without cluttering the room.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking, applying occasional traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
