A fabulous ceramic plaque by William Mycock for Pilkingtons Royal Lancastrian, dating from around the 1930s, arts and crafts in style, the plaque has a leaping fish in waves and a circling seagull above, depicted in low relief, all set in a lovely soft seaside, in shades of green and blue.
Measuring approx. 26 cm in diameter, this is a great looking and highly decorative plaque from a highly regarded company.
William Mycroft started as a tile artist in the late 19th century; in 1906, to be precise, he moved to the Pilkingtons pottery department, where he remained until his retirement in 1938. He was actually the Pilkingtons loungest serving artist.
Offered in fabulous condition, there is a firing crack on the reverse under the rim, which does not detract at all. A beautiful example.
